Check the phone before buying
Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked for use with another carrier. Model names alone are not always enough because regional device variants can differ.
- Look for Add eSIM or Add mobile plan in Settings.
- Confirm the phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Update the operating system before departure.
Install while you still have reliable Wi-Fi
Complete installation before the airport rush. Keep the QR code private and do not delete the eSIM after it has been added. Label the line GetSimGo so it is easy to select after landing.
- Keep the home SIM active only if you need calls or SMS.
- Choose the eSIM for mobile data.
- Disable data roaming on the home SIM to avoid unexpected charges.
Estimate the right amount of data
Maps, ride-hailing, messaging and travel research use relatively little data. Video calls, streaming and hotspot use can consume several gigabytes quickly. A 20 GB plan suits many ordinary trips, while a longer stay or frequent hotspot use may justify 50 GB.
- Download offline maps before travel.
- Turn off automatic photo and app backups.
- Monitor remaining data in My eSIMs.
What coverage can feel like
Dubai and Abu Dhabi generally have strong urban mobile coverage, but speed still depends on your device, the building, local congestion and the partner network. No provider can guarantee the same signal in every indoor or remote location.
